The reason why Saudi Arabia is converting to Gregorian calendar:

Saudi Arabia is now on considering gregorian calendar for all official and legal activities, such as salaries calculations,Iqama renewal, visa expiry , and all other governmental paper stamps. the Hijri calender is now just a way to determine the proper days on which to observe the annual fasting, to attend Hajj, and to celebrate other Islamic holidays and festivals.

Saudi Arabia was using the Hijri / islamic calendar as a first official calendar ,concurrently with the Gregorian as a second calendar, the Hirji calendar is shorter than the Gregorian calendar by 11 days in every year.
Calculating employees salaries using the gregorian calendar is a way to reduce 11 days salaries cost, by this decision Saudi Arabia will save 14.9 billion Riyal every month , and around 1.315 billion riyal (350 million dollars) as a daily saved cost.
